Tabula Rasa Chess — Privacy Policy

Effective October 20, 2026

1. Who we are

Tabula Rasa Chess ("we", "us", "the app") is an online chess game operated on the Base44 platform. This policy explains what data the app accesses, collects, uses and shares, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.

2. Data we access and collect

  • Account data: your email address, display name, username, profile picture (avatar) and country flag. If you sign up with Google, your email address and profile name are used to create your account.
  • Game data: the moves you play, game results, saved game histories (PGN records) and replay data.
  • Profile statistics: your player rating, wins, losses, draws and other in-app statistics.
  • In-game messages: chat messages you choose to send to your opponent or spectators during a game.
  • Payments: if you make an optional in-app purchase, the payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe); we do not store your full card details.
  • Device and local data: a random guest identifier and your preferences (board theme, piece set, colors, sound settings) may be stored in your browser’s local storage. Guest data stays on your device and never leaves it.
  • Technical data: standard server logs and diagnostic information (such as crash reports) generated when you use the app.

3. How we use your data

We use your data only to operate the app:

  • To create and manage your account and sign you in.
  • To run games: matching you with opponents, recording moves, updating your rating and showing results.
  • To display your profile: name, avatar, flag, rating and game history to other players.
  • To deliver in-game chat between the players who choose to use it.
  • To process optional purchases.
  • To maintain security, prevent abuse and diagnose crashes.

4. How we share your data

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as follows:

  • With other players, only the profile and game information you choose to show (name, avatar, flag, rating, moves, and chat messages you send in a game).
  • With our hosting and infrastructure provider (Base44), which stores and secures app data.
  • With Google (if you use Google Sign-In) and Stripe (if you make a purchase), each acting as an independent data processor under its own privacy policy.
  • When required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Data retention

We keep your account data, profile, game history and statistics for as long as your account exists. If you stop using the app, your data remains on your account until you delete it. Anonymized, aggregate game data (for example, moves in games shared with an opponent) may be retained as part of game integrity and other players’ histories, without personal information attached.

6. Data deletion

You can delete your data at any time:

  • Delete your account and all associated data: in the app under Settings → Delete account, or directly on our data deletion page.
  • Delete only your saved game history: on the same data deletion page, or in your profile settings.
  • Guest data: if you play without an account, your name and preferences are stored only in your browser. Clear the site’s browser data (or uninstall the app) to remove them.
  • Deletion is immediate and permanent, except for moves that remain part of other players’ finished game records without any personal information attached.

7. Data security and encryption

All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and stored data is encrypted at rest by our hosting provider.

8. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights and changes

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time through the in-app deletion tools described above. If this policy changes, we will update this page with a new effective date.

Manage or delete your data anytime on our data deletion page.
